Ingredients:
For the syrup:
- 1 cup water.
- 1 cup sugar.
- A pinch of vanilla.
- A squeeze of lemon.
For the basbousa:
- 1 cup sugar.
- 1/2 cup melted butter.
- 1 cup milk.
- 1 tablespoon shredded coconut.
- 2 cups semolina flour.
For garnish:
- Cream.
- Pistachios.
Instructions:
1. Place a pot on the stove, add water, sugar, and vanilla, and let it simmer for ten minutes until it thickens slightly. Then add a squeeze of lemon and let it cool.
2. In another pot, caramelize one cup of sugar, then add butter or ghee and one cup of milk, stirring well.
3. Add shredded coconut to the mixture, then pour it over the semolina flour and mix.
4. Grease a baking tray with butter, spread the basbousa mixture evenly, and add your preferred filling.
5. Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F) for ten minutes before placing the tray inside.
6. Bake for fifteen minutes, then remove and pour the syrup over it. Enjoy!
